You can’t go anywhere these days without seeing a pack of kids (and adults) walking like determined zombies, glued to their phones. Luckily, it’s not the apocalypse and hopefully people aren’t dying over this latest cultural contagion.
What is driving these normally house or office-bound herds of people out into the open air? It’s a little app called Pokémon GO. Have you heard of it? If you haven’t, crawl out of from under that rock and take a look around.
According to Survey Monkey, as of July 11th, “Pokémon GO attracted just under 21 million daily active users in the United States, surpassing Candy Crush Saga’s rumored peak US smartphone audience of 20 million and making it the biggest mobile game in US history.”
The location-based game calls for users to go out and walk around and interact with their environment to catch Pokémon characters; and apparently it’s addictive. According to Sensor Tower, time spent on Pokémon GO is exceeding user time on Facebook, Twitter or Snapchat. We love that the app is getting kids and adults outdoors, especially since it’s summer!
