google art project: art from your office chair

Der Rosenkavalier by Joseph Stella

Google has made it possible for you to visit an art museum, all from the comfort of your arm chair—or rather your office chair. So now, instead of traveling the globe to see some of the world’s most beautiful art, it’s all just a click away with Google Art Project. www.googleartproject.com.

The project was launched in February of 2011, and now partners with one hundred and fifty-one museums in forty countries.

MuseumTour

Viewers can take a walkthrough of a museum, view the art by collection, artist, or sort by newest through oldest in a set. You can also drag images out of a collection to compare to other art work, and create your own galleries.

Collections

Click on the image to learn more about the work, including a description of the art itself, the history behind the creation of it, info about the artist, the year it was made, the medium, and a map of where the art was created and more.

Detail with Information

Whether you’re an art buff, a student, or you just like to look at beautiful works of art, the Google Art Project will have something for you. Check it out at: www.googleartproject.com.
