According to Fast Company (www.fastcompany.com,) Twitter’s datastream or “firehose” is full of metadata that discloses personal, geographic, and technological information on Twitter’s tens of millions of users.
Gnip, one of the best known resellers of Twitter firehose info, and Eric Fischer, of Mapbox for Gnip, created fully scalable and searchable visualizations of the data. The maps show statistics like which languages are used where, what kind of mobile devices are used in what neighborhoods, and even shows Twitter use by locals versus the many tourists visiting an area.
